As a former teacher, I did come across students who did not have the aptitude to do math or were very anxious about the course and developed some mental blocks. I can't say that about you since I don't know you.
I am having a difficult time understanding why your teacher won't work with you which leads me to believe there is more to the story than you're telling. To me, a reasonable teacher doesn't yell at students for no reason.
Do you have any learning disabilities such as dyslexia, ADD, etc? This could be a problem if this is the case and your teacher should read your IEP to provide the necessary instruction or recommend another teacher who specializes in special ed to help out. What are the medications for? ADD????
I suggest if you are having difficulty with the math course, get together with your parents, teacher and school counselor and discuss the situation to develop a proper plan of action. Perhaps you need to be placed in another class (i.e., different instructor, special ed, etc) to help you through the difficulties.
I'm at a loss of what further to say since there are many details I don't know (i.e., behavior in class, ADD, dyslexia, personality conflicts, whether you have the necessary skills for the class, etc).

Your teacher doesn't sound like a very good teacher...but there's not very much you can do about that. I'm very happy for you that you're doing well in your other classes, but math is a difficult subject because the material is cumulative. Often, new concepts build on old concepts. If your basic understanding of math isn't good to begin with, then it will be very difficult for you to learn anything advanced.
My suggestion is then, that it won't be enough for you to try hard and do your math homework. You need to get extra tutoring to build up your math foundations. You don't have much time left in the school year, so I don't know how much help it would do but what you could do is hire a private tutor. A private tutor would probably be more patient with you and willing to help with the basics. Math also takes a lot of repetition, so don't get discouraged if you have to do a lot of practice problems before you start to understand it.

Public Law 94-142 says they have to abide by the IEP or they can face a lawsuit. Talk to the school counselor or the teacher in charge of special education. If that does not work, you parents will have to intervene. Make it very clear to everyone you are willing to do whatever it takes to pass the math class. Your mother should have been given a copy of your IEP and agencies that will help you if it is not being enforced.

If you get along with any of your classmates, you should get into a study group. You can work on homework together, and they might be able to explain things in a way the teacher can't. Also try to get another math teacher or your Counselor to work with you. Our school has hours where students come in for tutoring. Good luck.

Hi, I'm doing my GCSEs at the moment and I was so scared before hand, I found the best way is to start realy early with revising and just do little bits of each subject every so often, I also found that getting quite organised and planning each subject and what you need to do in it really really helps! I also found I wasnt motivated to do english coursework but I just thought about it and wrote a lot of my ideas down before I did it, this got me more motivated to actually write. Hope this helped Good luck

Well ur teacher sounds pretty mean, but I would try approaching her again. I would see if you could get extra credit or if there was anything you could do to pass the class. Have you tried tutoring, or have her help you. Good luck with it!

I agree with Matichel that a tutor is a great option. You might also consider trying to find a math book that makes more sense to you. There are (at least) thousands of books on math out there, and one of them might make more sense to you than the textbook your school uses.

I think it would be better if you go through the basics of all chapters you are dealing now with the help of a teacher who is interested in teaching to you.

since you talk about IEPs apparently you are a special student. when sp. ed. students are mainstreamed there should be an aid in the class to assist them. your parents should talk to the special ed. department and inquire why you dom't have an aid in your class. its required by law.
