if somebody took a plasma ball (the ball that you put your finger to and the electricity follows) what would happen if the glass was cracked or broken and then the switch was turned on?
would it shock people?

No. The gas inside (argon) is what makes it operate the way it does.

However, if you take a florescent light bulb (the long white ones), and touch one end to it, it will light up. Try it in the dark.
