This was an amazingly convincing rumour that came up on the leaky cauldron. Harry and Hermione could possibly be siblings. Think about it: How is it that Hermione could be so extraordinarily brilliant without any past magic in her? It is possible that she was adopted by her muggle parents...it is just a theory, and i thought it was rather lame at first, but the more i think on it, it seems quite accurate.

Just a rumour, or course.

What do you lot think?

I do not think so. If it were true, she would have ended up with the Dursleys as well, and for the same reasons--she would have needed protection.

Also, by the end of the sixth book, I'm sure we'd have known. I doubt Dumbledore would have kept "that" from them. Remember, he did tell Harry that Neville was another candidate for the prophesy. Moreover, Sirius Black would have known and would have said something.

Finally, she doesn't have any resemblance to Lily, James, or Harry and her birthday is in September, which make no sense with any of the chronology we have.

Admitted, any one of these points can be agreed away, but you can't argue them all away, IMHO.

It is an interesting rumour, but according to J.K. Rowling that is all it is. She has said that Harry is an only child and that his only living relatives are his Aunt Petunia and his cousin Dudley Dursley. When asked about Harry's family, his grandparents (if they were they killed) she said:

JKR: No. This takes us into more mundane territory. As a writer, it was more interesting, plot-wise, if Harry was completely alone. So I rather ruthlessly disposed of his entire family apart from Aunt Petunia. I mean, James and Lily are massively important to the plot, of course, but the grandparents? No. And, because I do like my backstory: Petunia and Lily's parents, normal Muggle death. James's parents were elderly, were getting on a little when he was born, which explains the only child, very pampered, had-him-late-in-life-so-he's-an-extra-treasure, as often happens, I think. They were old in wizarding terms, and they died. They succumbed to a wizarding illness. That's as far as it goes. There's nothing serious or sinister about those deaths. I just needed them out of the way so I killed them."

So, I don't think that Hermione is Harry's sibling, as a twin or otherwise. Hermione is brilliant without any magical relatives because she is extremely dedicated to studying. She just works harder than any of the other students. When isn't she reading a book (or several books)? I think she is driven to get top grades because she is desperate to prove that she deserves a place in the wizarding world and at Hogwarts. We saw from her Boggart that her greatest fear is failure! If she wasn't so smart she would be proving Draco's point for him (and Salazar Slytherin's) and she won't give him the satisfaction. J.K. Rowling has made prejudice one of the major themes of the Harry Potter series. Hermione Granger and Lily Potter are two examples of Muggle-born witches that are among the best and brightest of their age. Hermione was a Prefect and Lily was Head Girl. Three of the most powerful wizards that we've seen are Half-bloods: Harry, Voldemort, and Snape. Purebloods aren't better than everyone else, some of them just think that they are. I think it would be a major contradiction to have it come out in the end that Hermione was really Harry's long lost sister.

LOL Had considered that idea too, especially since Hermione DOES look like Harry's mom in some of the pictures....and, though their birthdays are so far apart, wouldn't be hard to fabricate that with all the spells they have to keep things secret if they wanted to protect both siblings much like in Star Wars with Princess Leah (please forgive spelling) and Luke.....so that at least one could live on to fight the good fight....However, when there was a suggestion of Harry and Hermione having a relationship early on and in later book, no-one warned them that this was not to be.

Had also considered that Dumbledore had had a relationship with someone in years past and that Hermione was the result...he makes a reference of a past love he had in one of the books....and, he and Proffessor M seemed to treat Hermione with as many "extra's" as they did to Harry.( like the time piece, for example)

LOL ...and I could go on and on...especially about the many comparrison's I saw in all HP books with the "Star Wars" books....

He wears the scar as a continuing reminder of the actuality. Can Voldemorte ever be truelly excised from the international if his evil capability nevertheless lies interior Harry corrupting him?

I don't think so. I think one of the important points that J.K. Rowling always brings up is that lineage doesn't matter. Draco not exactly a genius and his parents are pure, the same goes for Neville, etc. I think Rowling makes important staments that reverberate in our society today. I think he makes too many important statments about Hermione and the 'mudblood' issue for her to actually come from pure blood parents. Just my thoughts.

I don't think so. The Potters were really good people who would never give up a child and they were really popular with their friends. Plus, there are lots of children of muggles with good magic skills. And if you look through the books, a lot of her knowledge is book smarts, not practical talent.
