My late mother, a beautiful lady with a gentle soul, loved to read, and she gave me my love of books. I remember her reading to me when I was 3 years old. We had a neighbor who wrote children's books and she gave my mother access to her extensive library. She said I was the inspiration for one of her characters. By contrast, my father hated reading and resented the time my mother and I spent that way. In the time I knew him, even though he was well educated, he only read 3 books.

Sierra, about books I might suggest, my interests are so eclectic that I wouldn't know where to begin. My favorites in fiction range from Stephen King to Shakespeare, from many Southern writers to French authors, and others too numerous to mention. Add to that the time I spend writing my own work, and I need 3 or 4 lifetimes to do all I want to do. My advice is to be a fearless explorer in the world of books, and to give any worthy author a chance.

I've always loved reading because it can take you away to another place or time and you can experience things you may never run across in the "outside" world. Now I actually buy and sell books on-line, so the more reading I do, the better I'm able to do my job! I'm not there yet, but some of what I do makes me think of/feel like Velma from Scooby Doo (Son is a fan!) In the movie about the Loch Ness Monster, she has a book for everything. There ARE books for everything.
As for kinds of books...I've always liked fantasy and have read some lately (His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman). Love Anne McCaffrey as well and the Dragonriders of Pern series.
Also enjoy historical fiction, some science fiction and horror (at least Stephen King). Liked Misery, The Stand and Talisman best.
One of my favorite books has to be Illusions, The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach. Very interesting stuff and I read it when I need some perspective (like now!)
P.S. I just read what you added-beautiful! I think you have a way with words!

Absolutely! I read everything except romance novels (bleah!). I don't like new stuff as much as the "tried and true" classics, though. Perennial favorites of mine include "The Phantom Tollbooth" by Norton Juster (officially, this is a young adult book, but it's just as much fun for grown-ups!) and the series by Madeleine L'Engle beginning with "A Wrinkle In Time." And I just finished both "Eragon" and "Eldest." The book was definitely better than the movie!
If I ate food the way I read books, I would be severely obese. No matter where I am, I feel lost without a good book to read.

I absolutely love to read. All genres of books interest me & I read at least 3 books a week, if not more. Right now, I'm reading "Night" by Elie Wiesel. His wife translates his story of the tortures and terror he suffered in Auschwitz during the Holocaust. I also recently reread Maya Angelou's "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings." What an awesome & inspirational book. I'm glad to see so many other people love reading. I think it's a pastime that's being lost on the younger generation. My niece (6 years old) loves to read as well, but my nephew (9 yrs) hasn't quite caught the bug.

Oh yeah. I love reading. I can't believe it, you are a guy, and like to read!!! I am impressed. I read a lot of the classics. One of my favorite books is Jane Eyre. I love that book! I have just recently read a book, " King Solomon's Mines," By a guy with a name like rider haggard, or something. It was pretty good. I loved The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Some people have a really hard time reading those books, but I don't.(i think that any experienced reader would find them easy to read). I like the Books by louisa may alcott. they are good too. Agatha Christies mysteries are ok, but not always clean. Ella Enchanted is an all-time fave also. And Holes. That was a good one! I could do this all day.
Your fellow book lover/bookworm.

Richard Bausch is a great writer. I recommend "In The Night Season" and "Good Evening Mr. & Mrs. America, & All the Ships at Sea". I just started "Violence".
My favorite author is John Updike. If you haven't read the "Rabbit" series, you need to! Rabbit Run, Rabbit Redux, Rabbit is Rich, and Rabbit at Rest are the 4 novels in the series, and then there is a novella called Rabbit Remembered at the end of a book of short stories called Licks of Love. Brilliant work!

I enjoy all kinds, I get into phases where I dive into one genre for a while. The most fascinating I have found are true crime, and history. I read the book by Patricia Cornwall about Jack The Ripper, and The East End will never be the same for me, neither will the southern coast of the UK, scary that a killer like that could roam, look into the eyes of the author, and never get caught for what he's done. Absolutely frightening and intriguing at the same time. I couldn't put that book down until it was finished!

Yep, I love to read. Mostly I like horror, or murder/mystery type of books. Dean Koontz is my all time favorite. But Patricia Cornwell, Faye and/or Jonathon Kellerman, Robert Parker are good too. Every once in a while I like Jude Deveraux or Julie Garwood.

i've got on no account study Nora Roberts, i will could ascertain her out. I generally choose for fiction and mysteries. i'm rather interested in background and various biographies/autobiographies, so i choose for those too. i don't rather have a fave author. I do exactly not basically like the excellence. I unquestionably have authors that i like and admire, yet well-known is a be conscious too far for my love of analyzing lol.
