Sometimes when I'm in line at a store and a soldier in uniform is in front of me getting a drink or whatever I'll pay for it and say "thanks for keeping us safe."
They usually are really surprised but surprisingly gracious about it. They deserve our thanks for what they do.

Yes I always thank people for providing any kind of service, even if it's just some one who holds the lift or holds the door open after they pass through ,it's only polite.

Yes I have. I have even gone so far as to thank someone publicly by writing a letter to the editor of a newspaper.

When i was four i once thanked the lollypop lady for making sure i got across the road safely everyday, she looked at me like i had just spat in her tea. A lesson learnt there.

Yes. I always try to thank people for doing something nice for me, even if it is just a man opening the door for me.

YES. I work retail there are alot of people who like to answer phones while in line with the cashier. Well this guys rang and he shut if off and thank'd him for it.
