I have picked him up and i know he is alive. I just can't figure out what is wrong. I hope I haven't killed him.

So it is possible that it's shedding. This is my first shrimp so I don't know anything bout them. Is that how they shed by lying on there back??

Sorry to say but I don't think he is going to make it. Shrimp are very sensitive to changes in salinity, temperature, copper, nitrites and ammonia. Even a small amount of ammonia and nitrites can kill one. They are more tolerant to high nitrate levels compared to other shimp. Was your tank completely cycled before adding him? Did you just add a bunch of fish to a newer tank? Could you have overfed some on a newer tank? Anything that could have caused a spike in nitrites or ammonia would be my suspected cause. If you have any ammonia or nitrites you can do frequent water changes to lower them. Be careful not to change the salinity or temperature to rapidly when you do them as this could worsen his condition. Many smaller water changes will prevent this from happening but it sounds like he may be past helping. Check your water paramaters for the ammonia and nitrates. Coral banded shrimp are usually pretty hardy shrimp except when it comes to nitrites and ammonia which is what leads me to believe you may have that as your problem.

Shrimps are VERY sensitive to their watery surroundings. The number 1 cause of sick saltwater shrimp is the water parameters, namely high nitrates (you don't have an undergravel filter, do you? These can become toxic with nitrates)
Shrimp live from 3 - 5 yrs (you don't state how old he is) Do you have a skimmer as well? They're very useful in keeping water parameters good in a saltwater tank.

you know............you............might be right. i dont know much about CORAL BANDED shrimps, but i have a feeling you might wanna bring it to a vet.

-the water might not be the right tempareture

-you might not be giving it the right nutrients/food

-it might have a disiese

-might be already dead

cuz they dont sleep like that

P.S.
touch her or pick her up to check. if you didnt get her from an experienced breeder then he probably made up everything he told you to do for her.

Put in the net and get it close to him/her. If it moves, then it's probably alive. Put it back into an upright position. Repeat if he's on his back again. If he's not moving, then he's dead.
