I'd like to take mine to the park and do some work on MS Word. But I've never seen anyone using thier laptops outdoors. Is there a reason why nobody uses it outside?

Most people just prefer using their laptops indoors than outdoors for a number a reasons
some reasons i could think of why I wouldnt really want to use it outdoors would be:
1. the glare from the sun on my screen
2. Distractions
3. Difficulty to find a good place to rest the lapt top (and I would hate putting it on my lap for fear of it falling, the heat from the hard drive and battery, and because its uncomfortable to keep your legs together for such a long period of time)
4. Inability to go online unless your near a WAP you can access.
5. And of course being mugged.
Other than that I dont see any reason why you shouldnt use a laptop outdoors

The laptop is created for portability. You can take your Laptop anywhere you want. There is no problem on doing that. I have seen some people who work on their Laptop in Toilet. In that sense Park is a cool place.
I wish you have enough battery backup to keep the thing running. Because there is no alternate power source in the park.

As long as your battery is charged, you can take it with you. If you want to get on the internet, you would have to find a wireless hotspot or buy a WWAN card, but youre fine if you just want to work in Word, etc.

Outside, you're usually running on battery. The display on battery is dimmer than when it's plugged in. If the sun is shining, it can be very difficult to decipher the screen outside.

Because you won't be able to connect to the web,
Unless you're at the airport or a public library you can get a connection.some restaurants also offer a hotspot

Another reason is simple, muggers see you with a laptop, first thing that cross their mind is 'how much can I get rid of this for ?'

It is find to use your laptop outside, people usually want to be connected to the net, that's why you dint see them as much..
