Maybe it is the area that you live in.
I live in the country in Pa. and I was raised in the country in Ohio....I see no significant lessening of them here.

I guess it depends on where you live. In the city yes we hardly saw any but we moved to the country a few years ago and we have one area of our property we call firefly alley because of how many lighening bugs we have in that area. We can sit in our family room with all the lights off and watch them. It is very neat. Make a trip to the country one warm summer evening hopefully it will bring you back lots of good memories.

Just discussing that last night. I remember catching a pint jar full of them under my grandparent's apple trees when I was a child. Hard to find a pint jar full in a week now. I understand that their eggs are very sensitive to CO2 in the invironment and fewer eggs are hatching these days.

You're right ... I rarely see any lightening bugs anymore. If I do, it's one or two. I remember looking across the yard at night and seeing dozens.
Everything seems to be flying the coop ... the year my husband and I moved into our home, there were mole crickets everywhere. I remember thinking they were really creepy looking... now we haven't seen one in about 13 years.

They came out last summer at my Aunts place in the Southeastern US. She said the same thing and they came out at a different time of year than they used to as well.

Not here (Ontario). Last summer some nights they were all over. I don't remember catching that many as a kid. Not as many frogs though.

Not only that, but also some other forms of life. My Uncle is raising pheasants. I asked why & he said there are no more here. I'm going to raise them & release them!
