How could you deprive a man of his beloved "waffle stompers?" Besides which, if you wait another couple of years, they'll be right back in style, along with elephant bells, granny glasses, Nehru jackets, and peace necklaces.
I like to think of my closet as the orginal "recycle center." ;-)

Why do you want to do that?
I love them.
I got my first pair along time ago in South Africa.
They were handmade on the road side.
If I recall right they call it Bambatas.
There are somethings in life we like to hang on to.
Your hippie husband his souls.
There is an old song from that era . LET IT BE

Start slowly, buy one piece of updated clothing every few months and encourage him to wear it. Tell him how good he looks in it. My husband was really bad when we first started dating! But he has improved so much- we've been married seven years now. Be patient... other people will also compliment him and he'll pick up on that.

Surprise him with a make-over. Make dinner reservations somewhere casual. Buy him a whole new outfit - complete with new shoes. Lay it out nicely on the bed for him. Take pics and tell him how great he looks. Post pics on the refrig and last but certainly not least THROW OUT THE OLD SHOES! When and if he asks for them tell him they retired...
Hope that helps...

Tell him how good he will look in these ones... (Carolyn) holds up a pair of handsome men's sandals. You can't use this idea now, so you will have to work it out yourself.

What I would do is buy him the style you like and take the tag off and say that you can't return the clothing.
Hope it works!
