You don't need to feed them unless they are already free swimming. If they are still just little wigglers on the bottom they don't need to be fed yet.
Live baby brine shrimp is the best food for them. The only household item that would be a good choice would be hard boiled egg yolk. Just boil it until very hard and strain it through a clean cloth into the tank. It should take very little of the yolk to feed the babies.
I would also suggest you turn off your filter for about 20 minutes while you feed them, clean up any remaining food and then restart the filter. This will prevent them from chasing bits of food into the filter.
Hope that helps

The very best fry food for fish that need lots of protein is micro-worms. If you look at the classified ads in the hobby magazines you will find sources that sell starter cultures. These will rapidly multiply into quite a population. After a week to ten days the culture will crash, but clever you will have started new ones to replace them. It's a little labor intensive for a while, but once you get into the rhythm of feeding and starting new cultures it gets easier. The benefit of all this is an amazing growth-rate for the fry. A little care is needed because the very richness of the food can be too much for the fry.

No to the veggies. Really, just the commercial fry food, crushed flakes, and brine shrimp. Some of the krib fry will also go for cut up worms (earthworms, nightcrawlers, etc) but they have to be chopped so small and it's really a mess to do :(

Try feeding them brine shrimp or tubifex, just like the other answerer said. Pet stores also sell special fry food. I don't know if cichlids will eat it, but it's worth a shot.

In addition to what you mentioned, you could try some brine shrimp, and you can get that frozen in cubes that will dissolve. Bloodworms and tubifex isn't bad either, and you can get those cube frozen as well. Krill that is sundried you can crush that up. I am assuming you have them in a nursery tank seperated from the adults.
Thank you for the follow up on that MM, I totally forgot about the filter !!!

For the first few weeks, they'll be carring around a bag on their head. That's their old egg. And that's what they'll be eating for 2-4 weeks.
