Ever since I was 7 years old (I am 13 now) I have been afraid to sleep with my bedroom blinds open. There is a streetlight next door that shines in my room. It makes all those shadows on the wall.
Last night was the first night in 6 years I slept with my blinds open. I am going to try to get over my fear. I don't even know why it scares me. Well, when I was little (7) some girl was kidnapped and found 9 months later. That scared me, so I thought if I slept with my blinds closed, I couldn't get kidnapped. Ever since then, I have been scared to sleep with my blinds open.
Anyone else have that fear?

I must admit sleeping with my blinds open is kind of freaky. But I do it when it rains because I love watching the rain. :)

There is nothing wrong about sleeping with blinds shut! If any thing, it's probably safer in these days of peeping Toms, pedophiles, and kidnappers.
Please DO sleep with the blinds shut! I'm not sure why you think you have to conquer a fear of shadows when shutting the blinds is the best thing you can do.
You must NOT allow others to look in while you are asleep. In this day and age, it just isn't safe, especially if your bedroom is on the first floor.
Try not to worry about shadows that you really don't need to have around. Just shut the blinds!

I don't really think it's a fear, well maybe it is. I don't know. I'm 23 and I have never slept with my blinds open, ever. I hate it, it's so weird. I get it when you say that keeping them closed makes you feel safer. Also I think whenever I get under the bed sheets/comforter it feels safer too. I like someone in the bed with me too. Also I don't like sleeping by the door, like if it's a two-person bed then I'll choose the side I feel is safer. Haha...bedroom issues. It's not that bad, usually I just sleep. At least you're not alone.

that's not an irrational fear at all! It's good you are trying to get over your fears, because fearing things is no fun. I actually know a few people who are afraid to sleep with their blinds open because they're afraid that they'll see a face looking at them in a window or something (very scary). When I was little I had something kind of like that, i had to sleep with the blankets covering me totally so that nobody could see me (like if a kidnapper came into my room) also, this is funny, sometimes I slept with my pj's on inside out and backwards so that if a kidnapper came and saw me he would think that i'm a strange kid or something and not want to take me! haha

I've always slept with the blinds closed because my older brothers told me that if the moonlight shines on me while I'm sleeping I'll turn into a werewolf.

I have the fear of just having my blinds open at night, because when i was real little, i saw my reflection in the window, thought it was a huge dog, and it freaked me out. so now i cant look in open blinds at night.

When I was younger, I could not sleep if I could see out the window or see the reflection.. so yes, I had to have the blinds or curtain completely closed. I used to have nightmares that someone was coming after me and I could see them through the window..

i don't have that fear but i am scared to sleep with my blinds opened because a really creepy guy used to live just down the road from me and i was always scared that he would watch me through the window. i wouldn't have put it past him though because he used to sort of stalk me and he made some pretty creepy comments

I think I kinda do; I've never really been aware of it, but I always prefer to sleep with the blinds closed and I feel a little uncomfortable if they stay open. sometimes I let them stay open anyway, but I never sleep as soundly those nights.

I dont blame you Id hate to be kidnaped most of all id hate for my son to be kidnaped. There are sooo many predators out there and most of the time its someone you are related to or someone who knows the family. Put your trust in Jesus to protect you from those type of people. Read the bible or even pray for safety before you go to bed. At night I keep my sons window and curtains locked cos anyone can look in the window.

I never could slep with my blinds open in my entore life I am now 22 and I still sleep with them shut but I really dont lik eto sleep with my window open either and i am on the 4th floor
