I assume you don't have other fish in the tank that could eat it or a filter that it could be stuck in so I would suggest that you might be surprised how far a fish can get flipping around on the floor for a few hours. Keep looking, it's bound to be around... unless you have a cat or something.

Is there enough room for the fish to have jumped into the other side of the tank? One of my friends from work had a betta jump from one bowl into the one beside it. The fish was dead and half-eaten by the other betta by the time she got home. Bettas are carnivores.

Do you have siblings? Other fish with it? Roommates? A Spouse? A filter? A CAT?!

-Siblings could've eaten it, stolen it, or killed it.
-Other fish would've eaten it.
-Roommates would've misplaced it.
-A spouse could've lost it or killed it.
-A filter would suck it up and turn it into shreds.
-Cats would... you know...

Otherwise it jumped out and commited suicide. Maybe it fell into a toilet or something. Or it died and decomposed, but then you would've seen a skeleton. It's kind of messed up to actually see that though...

Hope that helps, with such little information you've given.

They can jump out sometimes, and it could be somewhere you haven't looked,
or do you have any ornaments he could be hiding in or under, or if you have a cat, i caught mine scooping out my goldfish once.
