Ravens and crows are two completely separate kinds of birds. They are related, both belonging to the corvid family, along with jackdaws, jays, rooks, and other similar birds. Ravens are very large and very intelligent. Crows are also very intelligent but smaller. Ravens have a powerful beak with a crook on top, and crows have slender, straighter beaks. If you see them side by side the difference is obvious.
Mythologically ravens and crows are both seen as psychopomps, guides and guardians of the soul on the way to the afterlife. (A natural function for scavengers.) Ravens are also seen as messengers. Hugin and Munin (memory and thought) were two ravens who were Odin's companions.
And whoever it was who thinks crows and ravens are the male and female of the same species, I hereby sentence you to one month straight tied in a chair in front of Animal Planet.

No ravens are larger than a crow. I had a pet crow growing up. They are very smart.
I believe that ravens aren't in the SE of the US. I could be wrong though. They are The Morrighan's creatures.
They are seen as messengers.

I'd say Ravens. Crows naturally use pointy sticks to poke worms in they are in a hole or cover.

WOW..i can't believe no-one said this yet..least not while I'm typing.
I don't know much about crows, i think their bigger then ravens, and they usually symbolize death.
Ravens are mythologicaly Odin's birds, he sends them out into the world to see and listen for him, 2 ravens flying north represent a good omen and are returning to tell the tale.
So if you are into Norse mythology (like me) and you see a raven, it is a good sign, if you see two, that is a better sign, if you see one dead....well Odin is losing the constant war between the frost giants of Journane.

Ravens,Crows and Rooks come from the same family. Originally they were thought to be omens and portents because they were the messangers of the gods. In later time they become symbolic of death because of the connection to the pagan gods and the fact they will pick a corpse clean.

As far as i know, at least the Raven is considered a symbol Death, and in fact i believe that it is sacred to Morgana (not sure what she does exactly, but Death is in there somewhere).
And maybe I'm completely wrong, but isn't it that crow and raven are just the female/male of the other one?
Hope this helps some,
Irina.

The word raven sounds more oober-spirity-ish than crow. That's why the fluff queen herself chose the name ravenwolf and not crow-wolf.
