Unfortunately, this is most likely a manufacturer solvable issue. There is a piece of software that has become corrupt or removed and is no longer there. go to your manufacturer's website and see if you can download: a) the software in question, or b) the owner's manual - which will tell you how to enter the cmos and change the settings manually...

Best to get the software for longterm use, but to save your eyes, turning it down manually may be possible.

In fact, if you're REALLY lucky there is a 'function' key on your laptop (usually near and behaves like shift or control - you hold it down while you strike another key) Whatever color it's in, blue is typical, you may have on another key in that color a picture of the sun with an up arrow (or something similar) hold the function key, and press the 'for the love of god, turn it down!' button and see what you get.

Rotsa ruck! ;-)

I think I can help. First off, you should look for the Fn button on your keyboard. You should press this and hold it while pressing a key that looks like a light or something like that.

On mine the Fn is between the Ctrl and Alt on the left hand side of the keyboard. The buttons for the brightness are the F6 and F7 buttons.
