its got a new map sensor, and ive installed 2 junkyard EGR valves. It idles fairly smooth, but usually too high (1000-1200 rpm). put it in gear idle drops to normal 600-800 rpm. push the pedal on the right it sputters and dies instantly. 3.1 L V-6. 230,000 miles.

Check the fuel pressure.

i have a 92 cutlass supreme. mine idles high when in park and low when in drive or reverse. mine dose not die though. it did it when i first got it though i just took it out and ran it hard for a while and it worked for me. i live in the country so i would do it in the country.

Worn out fuel pump.
Yes, the one in the fuel tank.

Try a fuel filter first though. They're a lot cheaper and easier.

i BOUGHT A oLSMOBILE ONCE !!! NEVER AGAIN !!! I had it a couple months & the engine blew -- we were young marrieds and had NO MONEY, just by luck we had bought a policy on it and it paid for the repairs (about $3k) and we IMMEDIATELY TRADED it in on a CHEVY !!!! Which we had for 12 years b4 we sold it -- NEVER A PROBLEM -- STILL RUNNING GREAT !!!

try replacing the excelerator pump;easy and inexpensive to do yourself, may solve the problem and it won't cost ya much in the process

it might be becase of the point or the timeing
