Rivers and streams (small rivers) occur anywhere there is water, a gradient of terrain, and gravety. Water moves towards the lowest elevation possible. It stops flowing if it hits a large enough level patch.

Rivers and streams exist anywhere there is a source, like a spring. They also exist in different climates from the tropical climates of the Amazon to the cold climate of the Rockies to the dry climate of the Grand Canyon. Topographically, rivers are at the lowest points in valleys and canyons. Water obeys gravity so it will always be at the lowest topographical point. What I would do is talk about how the ecosystem of the river (animal and plant life) varies from river to river in different climates. Such as: What can live in the Amazon that can't live in the Seine or the Colorado?...etc. etc.

You really need to do some research if you are doing a presentation or you will feel really stupid when someone asks a question that you have no Idea about. This is really basic stuff. Try putting ecology into google, you will find bags of info. Don't stick to the Internet, go to your local library, read your text books talk to your teacher/tutor. If you don't put the work in you will end up looking a fool, you will also get a bad mark. If you put the work in it will show and you will get the credit for it. Don't forget to acknowledge your sources in your references, and if you don't know how to do your referencing find out soon!

Where do rivers exist? Are you serious? Most state maps show where the rivers are. Look up specific rivers at wikipedia.
