I have 3 female dogs and 2 have masculine names. Hendrix and Napoleon. The third is Cookie. I worked at a vet's office and one of the most popular names was Gizmo.

Sundae the cat and Candy the cat...we used to have a cat named Mini and all the people at the vets office thought that was funny because it was supposed to be mini mouse not cat.
I also named a cat after Demona on Gargoyles the cartoon.

My one dog is "Popeye" I got him as a rescue. He was a puppy & had his eye knocked out of his head. Let me back up & tell you his story. I was a mail carrier. This dog on my route kept on getting pregnant, so I told the lady of the house that I could get her spayed cheap or free. She wanted that, so I gave her my phone number. To make a long story short, someone abused this puppy, so I took him to the vet & they asked his name. With my sick sense of humor, I said Popeye! His eye was literally outside of his skull. $400.00 later I have a one-eyed Ger Shep mix. I still have him. (His mother has 3 legs, because the kids let her out of the yard & she was hit by a car & then got pregnant.)

the dogs here are andre and pepe-nothing exciting. i used to have a bunch of lizards-ren (iguana-name from a cartoon chihuahua) and grizziscus, szass tam, moonglum, frodo, gandalf, flamefang, smaug, zarozinia, among others (small lizards-all names from fantasy fiction). we named a bird nasty because she would hiss at us. the few aquarium critters i had with names-llyr (freshwater lobster named after the celtic sea god), glass (blue freshwater lobster named after the "sea god" in pentateuch of the cosmogony), brock and lemmy (brown bullhead catfish named after members of hawkwind), elric (an albino channel catfish-named after a mike moorcock character) and my fossil catfish-deimos and phobos, after the moons of mars. i had tarantulas-milly and stacia, the latter after a dancer for hawkwind. my beagles were lady and sherlock. my cat was yaga zoe-i have no clue why she had that name.
the coolest name i ever heard for a dog was arcane, a black greyhound owned by nebelhexe and samoth and who was honoured in the hagalaz' runedance song "soul of a hound"

I have a cat named Scrappy (cause we rescued him from a scrap yard) and one named BW cause she's black and white. Not unusual, but not really the norm or Fluffy or Whiskers :)
