It's a 94' Acura Integra. There's plenty of coolant. When I drive, its fine. It's only when I come to a stop, the needle is all the way on H.

could be a couple of things, bad waterpump, plugged radiator, or if you have an electric cooling fan it might not be operating.

Because when you shut the engine down the pistons swell and the water is no longer circulating and either is the air fan so the water temp goes up that is why alot of vehicles went to the electric radiator fan that remained running for a few minutes after the car was shut down.

Sounds like your fan may not be working. So when you are driving, air is being forced over the radiator, keeping it cool.

the cars running hot, make sure there enough coolant in the radiator, possibly the water pump or hose may be bad

Next time you see it go to hot ,listen to for the fan to turn .If it doesn't change the coolant senser.

Electric fan doesn't work.

You neglected to say what kind of car. So that's the best I could do.
