Each generation is getting ruder and meaner. I wish I knew what to do to solve the problem, but I don't. Sometimes I feel like we need a big tidal wave (have you heard the song Aenema by Tool?) to wipe out everyone so that God can start over.
As a person who has struggled with her weight at times, I understand on a first hand basis what society thinks of fat people. They think fat people are pieces of s**t. Excuse my language, but it's the truth. I have been skinny and I have been fat, and people treated me 100% better when I was skinny. They think it's ok to hurt your feelings....like one time, years ago, I was in a restaurant with my family and I got up to use the bathroom. I had to pass this table with a young guy probably in his early 20's with his skinny, pretty girlfriend. When I passed them, he decided that the best way to look cool in front of his girlfriend to compensate for having a small penis was to go "oink, oink" as I passed by. Just like I was worthless...like I had no value as a human being, so just go ahead and s**t on me. Another time I was walking home school and a car load of teens with IQ's about the same as their shoe size stopped and yelled at me, "Jenny Craig is that way!"
Educate people? Hard to educate people who prefer to be ignorant twats. I suppose all we can do is grit our teeth, smile and not let these dimwits know that they got to us. They are the ones who are empty inside, so really we should pity them. But I don't.
Now that I have lost weight, people are treating me differently again and I feel like saying, "if I was still fat you wouldn't even be talking to me." It's very upsetting.

I think fattyism is the last allowed prejudice based upon people's view that if someone has allowed themselves to become FAT and UGLY, they must also be stupid and lazy.
First of all, I'm fat - 21 stones is fat in anyone's books but apparently, I have such a pretty face - I must have, I get told it so many times by well-meaning people who feel they must say something to compensate me for my obvious pain in being so FAT.
Secondly, it's assumed that an obese adult must have been a fat child. I carry photos round to show that in my case I was a skinny child. I recently showed my clients a photo of me when I was ten - in shorts, on the beach just off to play beach football. They were all astounded. One lady observed that it must be heartbreaking. Another asked what happened. Twelve happened, the ovaries started up and so did the Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
As for being lazy, this is my last question before going off to work, I'm a carer; we walk around an awful lot, I'd run if I was allowed to because that's the only way to get from the top of the corridor to the bottom of it quickly enough to please some of my clients.
I worked 50 hours last week, a projected 47 this week and 57 next week.
I have one day a week off and that is usually a sleep day as this is a very rare day shift. I work nights.
As for uneducated; no misspelling in my answers. I often bore the pants off my colleagues with the latest theories in any field you can care to mention. I have no television (it fizzled just before the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday) now and no plans to replace it. I'll get more reading done and if IQ scores mean anything to you. Mine is around 140.
Yet, I am treated like a lazy simpleton simply because I carry more fat on me than the average person .... everyone is 'fat' to some extent, you can't live without some fat on you.

I've seen this a lot growing up as overweight. I understand how people can get. My friends always tell me they like me for who I am, but then they turn around and make fun of another fat person. People either treat everyone respectfully, or they don't. There's nothing anyone can do to educate them really. Society has set the "proper" look for all humans and that makes many uncomfortable. In today's society, people think the "good" image is thin and beautiful or handsome. People judge on appearance, there's not much we can do except try to live with it. I try to deal with it. Its hard because then I think there is something seriously wrong with me whenever I look at myself. Even when I'm told all this stuff about I'm good the way I am, I never believe it. Like I've already said, we'll just have to try to deal.

First off id like to say bird you are just as insensitive as ever, good job you must be proud go wake up and think about that.
Second i would like to say, think about it this way. Imagine you were a person with a nice body which you worked hard to have and then you look at a overweight person and you think of when you were like that. Wouldn't you feel that because you beat the worst you can look back and laugh.
I used to be a chubby little boy, and then once i hit puberty i realized that girls were the prey and i was the hunter and the only way to catch the pray was to either be rich and have fancy things or be extremely physicaly fit.
I digress but these are just things running threw my mind

I think the media is to blame
so often we are reminded whatwe should be like look like think like
we are all programmed into thinking fat people are over indulgent and have no self control whe it could be a variety of reasons that cause this condition
We are reminded daily how precious life is and to take our
health seriously and we see that fat people dont heed that and do what they feel they need to do to remain at that weight
we strive hard to remain fit and healthy and it seems that the oversized don't and so people in their hurry tend to ake judgements about fat people
they dismiss them and over look them because they don't follow society's rule
they seem to live a hedonistic life style that deep inside we too would like to lead
we envy their irreponsibilty and their live now attitude
May be its all these factors

Have you ever stopped to think it isn't your appearance. I know being overweight is a problem. (I deal with it on a daily basis.) But, what if it's something else. Consider that before you drawn conclusions.
To educate people; to stop the disrespect, etc. There isn't much you can do. As a society as a whole, people are artificial and are pressured to look a certain way. The skinny are beautiful...blah, blah, blah. Bunch of crap! That's what media-oriented stuff projects, therefor we have to suffer.
Just don't let it hinder you. Rise above it. Good luck.

There's nothing wrong with being fat.
Obesiety in the USA is a serious, expensive problem. States spend billions per year to treat obese people. I was at Wendy's yesterday and it is not a coincidence that about 60% of the customers in the store did not look healthy. I do not understand why americans cannot care for themselves.
I do not have any hatered towards fat people, but I do think if you do not care for yourself in anyway shape or form than you should suffer the financial consequences and not the government.
My Uncle Don is a good example. He has always been 200pounds overweight because he always orders two big macs and two large french fries at Mcdonalds instead of a small hamburger with a fruit cup. He had a heart attack because of his bad diet habits and and his health insurance company has probably spent at least $1,000,000 on him for medical care. He will change his eating habits because he thinks high fat foods are the only acceptable foods... My point is, he should order a fruit cup with a small hamburger instead of the big macs and french fries.

Appearance does matter. It is bettter to get a trim body from point of view of health also.If two persons one tall and other short people only notice the tall. What to do?
But store peole and customer servive agents should be polite to all,fat and slim.Proper training of staff is the only solution. But there is a natural solution. If the store empoyee donot behave properly you donot go there again. In a shorttime he will have no business. Some certfication like ISO 9000 for services in stores is another solution.

Well, I say! They don't have the right to condemn any person!
But in any case discrimination is the center of this topic!
The slim ones vs. the fat ones!
I noticed that also! coz... i have a friend of mine who is fat also!
We join a club together with some other friends of ours! we auditioned!
And when the interview came on! The club president keeps insulting our fat friend!!! That is too harsh!
They were just lucky you know, not having a fat body! But if they did i know they will sorry for themself afterall!
you can't educate them how to respect one person! The process always starts with themselves if they have respect for themselves enough to respect others!
Be polite to them! even though they are not to you! They just haven't learn the fact of living life truthfully!

It's not you. It is the way people have been brought up the last 30-40 yrs( Dr Spock came along in this period) There were parents who did teach their kids to say 'Hello,Thankyou, you're Welcome,Yes Sir ,No Sir, Yes Ma'am, No ma'am!!! When I worked in a grocery store in the 70's I was told to say 'Thankyou to all customers. I would tell felow workers "See ya later!!!"What's goin' on? Don't work too hard!!!Try something besides "Have a nice day"
