Such Protestants are a putrid minority of the Protestant community. Their ranks seem bigger than they are because, like many minorities, they are vocal and know how to get attention. Their anti-Catholic diatribe is a misguided one.

Catholics, when encountering such vitriol, should defend their Faith and their Church - but do so charitably. Those making the attacks might be the victim of poor instruction. Such Protestants are not actually campaigning against the Catholic Church itself. They've come to hate lies about the Church they believe to be true.

Of course, the short answer is that they spend too much time looking down on their fellow man than they do looking up at God.

I am a Protestant and I don't look down on Catholics. I'm not sure where you get this. I suppose some Prot. believe that their religion is the only true religion and don't believe Catholics are Christians. I don't think that way though.

Catholics believe in sola ecclesia (whatever the church says goes) Protestants believe in sola scriptura (whatever the Bible says goes).

With sola ecclesia the Catholic church basically says we'll interepret the scriptures for you...

The doctrine of sola scriptura encourages the believer to check out the things taught to him by verifying it in the Bible directly. The standard for what is taught on the things of God must come from a standard outside of the preacher and the believer. He has no authority to deviate from it.

One great example of blatant deviation from the scriptures by the Catholic faith in the original language text (Greek) of the New Testament is where Jesus says, "Call no man your father upon the earth, for one is your Father, which is in heaven," Matthew 23:9. If that were to be transliterated from Latin it would quite literally say, "Call no man pope upon the earth, one is your Father, which is in heaven." Their whole system of popes and father is designed to deceive and keep people in the dark in order to perpetuate their own kingdoms and standing on earth. Jesus said, "You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." John 8:32 But don't take my word for it...check it out for yourself!

The fact is neither the Catholic church, nor any man, has the authority to change the Word of God or change the proposotions set forth in the Bible by imposing their own presuppositions.

Catholics also believe in doing good works to aide in their salvation and standing before God. The Bible calls those dead works. Protestants believe that Jesus died for their sins and that his work on the cross purchased their redemption completely and perfectly with his blood atoning for their sins once and for all.

"For by grace are ye saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

I have no clue. Since the catholic Church was the first Christian religion I don't see what they have to look down their noses at.

Ummm...actually you've got it totally backwards.

It's the Catholics who think they run the joint and have first dibs on Heaven.....right along with them in that thought are the Southern Baptists.
