You know how when you update something like windows xp to vista does that take up any memory anywhere on your computer?

Updateing to Vista will use more harddisk space (space that is used for files and programs), as well as more memory (this is what holds programs that are in use...more memory available = faster performance and more apps at once)
Only upgrade to vista if you have bare minimum of 512megs of memory

When programs install they usually create a temp folder to work out of during the installation process. Often, these files are deleted after the install is complete. Sometimes, and it's hard to say exactly when, installers leave copies of these files on your local hard disk.
