I am worried about viruses. I know that file sharing can infect computers. All of the files that I am importing to itunes are mp3 files. Can they contain viruses? Can people write viruses into song files? On my new mac I only get songs from the itunes store, but I have been importing the songs from my old PC that I had downloaded from the net. Please explain to me if this has the potential to hurt my new Mac. Thanks, Tyler

It shouldn't be a problem to move those songs onto your new mac, they had caused you no problems on your old computer; correct? Therefore, they should not cause any problems on your new computer.
People have found ways to put viruses and many other malicious programs in a TON of different files or folders, and music IS included in that. Just make sure that you do regular maintenance (virus scans etc.)

Transferring the files won't harm the computer. If you unsure if they have viruses, scan them with a virus scanner.
