ok, well for the past few years ive really been thinking about what i would like to be. and my whole life ive always wanted to be an actress. i love the entertainment and putting smiles on peoples faces, and making people laugh, but i would always try to move on to something else because i always thought "oh, that could never happen to me" because im from a small town and i just thought the odds of me being a famous actress were just nothing. i thought i had no chance. but lately ive been thinking about what ive been wanting to do, and being an actress would just always pop into my head. and something would just keep telling me too try acting.. so ive come to the decision to try it. the chances are very slim, but i am willing to work hard to be it. and i know there will be alot of failures and disapointments along the way, but this is something i really want to do, and i am willing to try.. so do you know of any acting places i can get in contact with to help me??

One thing is that you have to be realistic. You need money, support, and talent. You also need to move to a big city in order to accomplish this. If you can do all of that, then by all means go for it! The first thing you need are pictures and resumes.

If you want to find a legitimate agent to represent you for commercials, TV & film go to Sag.org. Use the dropdown menu on the right labeled 'resources' and choose 'agent information'. On the next screen, on the left choose 'Find a SAG franchised agent' and follow the directions. You can look up agents all over the US, but there are higher concentrations where the work is (Los Angeles, NY, IL, FL, GA etc.)

Then you can send them your headshot, resume, and a cover letter stating that you are seeking representation and wait to see if they call you in for an interview.

Once you have an agent, they will get you the auditions, but until then you can check out actorsaccess.com. For theatre, you can go to backstage.com or http://www.actorsequity.org/castingcall/... If you find the audition on the Equity site, you still may be able to go, as long as their not taking appointments from equity actor's only :-) On backstage.com you have to pay to get all of the info, but the initial search is free and you may be able to see enough info to find out the rest on your own without paying OR you can go to your local bookstore or newsstand and look at their print publication (new every Thursday) for free. Good luck!

Well... let's see... before you decide to jump into this... think long and hard about it. It is going to be a crappy life... and the most important question that you should consider, and this goes for anybody who wants to be in any form of entertainment... is.... are you doing it because you love the art itself? Can you live a happy life without it? Or are you interested because you want to be famous, rich and popular? That's the first step... second, almost NOBODY can just delve into it. Set yourself up with an acting teacher, go to school for acting, trust me, in the long run, you will learn so much more than if you just tried to jump into a job... I don't know how old you are, but check into arts schools around your town, think about colleges with theatre departments, and start there... it's the easiest place to get ahead....

It sounds like you are interested in being a performer just as much as you are in being a famous performer. That's good. You can find plays to be in and theatre groups for kids. Ask at school and check the yellow pages. True your chances of becoming famous are slim. But your chances at becoming a good performer are excellent. Do that first. Worry about the money later.

Try to find a beginning level acting class to enroll in. That will tell you a lot about how much you want to pursue it.
