(meaning without blood) but i was still on my period for like two more days so i didnt stop during the night! (and i am scared to but one back in now). but i know i need to since summer is coming and swimming and vacations. what happened? why did it hurt?

Its because, as you said, it was dry. Removing a dryish tampon is painful. When removing a tampon, give the string a little pull, if moist enough it should come out without any pain, maybe just a little uncomfortable if you not used to it. If its dry, wait a little longer before removing. If you need to remove a tampon that has been in long enough (and overnight is long enough) add a little water to it before removing if it is dry.
The flow isn't even, and some women the flow slows down to nearly stopping, during the night, and for others its heaviest then. You just have to learn to know your body and its own unique cycles.
Also the tampon size Small, medium, large (super) isn't going by the vagina size but by the flow amount. Smalls should be used on light flows and supers ONLY when a heavy flow is expected.
If you want to go swimming during the summer you might need to try again. Remembering that your body is unique and to judge by what you know of your cycle.
Also when using a tampon when swimming, change it when you get out of the water. It can have absorbed you flow and some of the water, making it full then.
Good luck with this time and remember around half the world's population has been there too!

don't worry about it =) I had my first period when i was 12 too and only had it once and then I got it again when I was 13 and didn't have it consecutively until I was 16 now i get it every 7-8 weeks and it lasts for about 5-6 days - nice i know right. Just make sure that you tell your mom or if you can't tell her then tell someone who is a close adult female that will listen to you. Also make sure that you are exercising and drinking tons of water and eating healthy. Exercising will help your period not last as long. Another tip that my doctor told me is to put little x's on the calender on the days you have your period that way you can look back and measure the time apart your cycles are. It totally sucks having your period im sorry =( oh and another thing when you have your period carry tylonol or advil with you for cramps - they will really turn out to be lifesavers

Hi Shelbie,
I had the same problem when I 1st used one at a Friends cottage to go swimming, after the weekend I bled for weeks, I
can't remember how many it was so long ago. I surmise that
somehow you inserted it wrong. After that weekend at the cottage I've tried to wear one to no avail. If you can't find the proper make or size, you maybe 1 of the many that just can't
wear them unless it's crucial, swimming, the beach, spa, etc.
Look at me I can't wear em at all!!! Don't give up though, as there has to be at least 1 out there. However, because the last one didn't work, may you should experience how to put em in first.

Wear a pad at night. I know it's a hassle but I do that to so I don't end up having to have pain when I take it out in the morning. I don't wear it at night also cuz I sleep for 9 hours and it's not healthy to keep it in for so long. Or you can try lubricating slightly beforehand. Good luck!

as everyone knows you shouldnt really keep a tampon in for more than 4 or 5 hours. obviously pulling it out when it is dry hurts but sometimes if you keep it in for too long and then pull it out when it is dry it will actually get stuck making it hurt really bad. ways to make it less painful i dont know, if you find out let me know.

if you don't felt anything when you used it, probably you were able to use it right, and there is no reason it will hurt..chances are, you are allergic to the material (fabric) of the tampoon, as with its chemical contents. it does happen to me once, when i tried using a tampoon. lucky for me, i only have it on for like 3 hours so the rashes and pain is not that much. Its like developing rashes only, its directly inside our genitalia and that what makes it really painful...yes? I realized that since only "cotton" lined panty liners and napkins works for me, the satin fabric lining of the tampoon cause an allergic reaction on me as well. Besides, we should trust only one brand for our use, if your skin is sensitive like mine. Several times i regret using and trying "new" and innovative products and brands when it comes to liners and napkins because it causes allergic reactions.....and at times, its making my period stop as well which is very SCARY!!! and girl!! it really does hurt!! maybe tampoon is not for you.or if you really wanted to use one, choose a pure cotton material (most of the time more expensive), and stay away from satin like fabrics..similar to plastic.its kind of hot when in contact with the skin. I figured since babies have sensitive skin, they are more prone to diaper rash if their moms used a cheaper diaper brands with this kind of fabric....anyway our period is just for a few days... have fun!!!

tampons are more comfortable than pads. try it again but dont put one on at night; use pads. try a lower absorbency if you need one in the morning or afternoon and its a light flow.

if you burn your hand on a stove would you do it again? then why do what you know will hurt you . I hate tampons they keep all the garbage in us . Pads only here and I am 42 they never harmed me.
