If you have ever read this book, doesn't it give you the creeps ?
George Orwell died in 1950, and I find he was so dead on
about what he was talking about.
Just curious.

Ever been audited? They've been here for a long time. I was without work and earning no income for almost a full year a long time ago. I couldn't afford to drive and bought a bike with money I saved. When tax season came around, I filed my earnings. $0. I was audited and they went into my bank transaction history for the year and filed charges based on my bicycle. If I was out of work and had no earnings, how could I afford a bicycle without stealing money from the government? Almost every purchase we make these days is by bank or credit card. They know exactly where you are and what time. If you buy a CD during working hours of the week, somebody's taking note to that.

I used to be in the military. I never told them I had a part time job on the side. One day, they called me up at work to ask why I wasn't on base.

You're exactly right. It's creepy how he knew what was coming. World War Two was won by knowing where people were, with who and why. America became very good at the game of knowing everything about everyone very quickly and Mr. Orwells knew what was going to happen because of it.

you mean having every domicile rigged w/cameras and mics? hardly. we're spoiled. we are never going to give up our right to privacy w/the current system. the only ones that come close to orwell's book are the cia, nsa, fbi, law enforcement, and the perverts(video peeping toms) and similar slime. some people were crying foul when cameras at traffic intersections were installed, holy cow.

I read that book back in the sixties when I was growing up. Brave New World was another book of the same genre of about that time.

I remember writing a paper on that very topic in high school - it's so much more true today than it ever was back then.
