A national culture of fear. Bush coasted to his 2004 win based on rallying his religious right base on gay marriage and consistent, blatant fearmongering re: terrorism. When it happened, I was absolutely stunned, though.

Ray Nagin, didn't he say something like 'God sent Hurricane Katrina on us?' (I think he did.) I'm surprised he got re-elected after that.

(If you're American, too) don't feel too bad, though. Tokyo recently re-elected a deranged racist/ultranationalist nutcase as governor, so it goes to show that stupidity isn't necessarily confined to one country.

The Mayor Nagin thing I don't understand either. Bush was appointed president in 2000 so I don't really count that as being elected. He lost the popular vote that year. In 2004 there was some hanky panky in Ohio in a few counties that swung the election to Bush. To answer your question. Bush/ Cheney just played the Boogie Man card ( remember the color coded terror alerts) to death and scared voters to death.

I agree with you on Ray Nagin but I do NOT feel Mr. Bush is incompetent!

Thats truly a million $ question...actually Americans alone are not afflicted by this disease...ppl. in other nations too suffer from such a malady...:). Anyway, to answer ur question...first of all, we (the voters) never learn from our mistakes (and as philospher George Santayana said: Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it)...secondly, voters are gullible -- dazzled by the media as well as smooth talk of the candidates aspiring for public offices....many a times its a choice between lesser of the two evils...and last, but not the least, u get what u deserve!

Well, I guess you could say this about ANY politician that was re-elected. Want to cover the Democrats too or just bash the Republicans for now.

The same reason many Americans buy SUVs. Thats all thats being offered. I can't remember when a political selection of mine was other than the least of two evils.

That's a question that has long haunted political analysts.

Maybe because voters are gullible and until an issue socks them square in the wallet, medicine chest, womb or gun cabinet, they really don't care.

Because that seems to be the only people the parties run.

Because the rich people don't care who is president. They only care about them selves.
