This is an old move, I think starring kris kristopherson, titled, I think "Cannery Row". It's about a run down area of town that used to be a cannery, and it concernes the characters that live there. One situation I can remember is when a mentally challenged adult tries to get a girl interested in his best friend so he breaks his best friends arm while he is asleep so the girl will come visit him. Can you tell me which movie this is? Thanks.

...it was Nick Nolte, not Kris Kristopherson, who played the lead role in 1982's "Cannery Row", based upon John Steinbeck's classic novel; the film also starred Debra Winger.

It is Cannery Row from 1982. It was Nick Nolte though, not Kristopherson.
