A phone call more that ~8 miles away from your central office but within the service area of your phone company is considered Regional Toll. Cambridge and Worcester are in the same Regional service area for Verizon of Eastern Mass.

Actually, this depends completely on your phone plan. It very well may be considered long distance. You would need to look at your phone plan, and see the surrounding citiies you are covered by "local" calling. It is a different area code, and if you have a minimum phone plan, it may be long distance.

Try dialing the number without the 1 and the operator will tell you if it's long distance, if you get through it's not!
