Westmoreland was the idiot who thought he could fight a conventional war against guys in pajamas. In the middle of the Ia Drang battle in 1965, he wanted Colonel Moore of the 7th Air Cav to brief him on the status of the battle, how out-of-touch can a general be? Col. Moore was surrounded on all sides and directing a desparate battle.
