One of my students, got me my favorite book with another special note inside. Another got me gourmet coffe, because they knew I loved coffee. Another got me movie passes, because I love movies. If you are really familiar with this teachers likes and dislikes, then, get them something that will show you understand them as much as they understand you.

If the teacher is of the same gender, a gift is appropriate, if not DO NOT GIVE a personal gift unless it comes from your parents - maybe a restaurant coupon. You are not in a position to give a personal gift to an opposite sex teacher.

Same sex teachers can get presents that are not too large - and the letter is the best solution in both areas.

If you will continue in the school next year, be very circumspect in your gift giving. Don't want to influence a teacher into thinking you are bribing them!!!

I was a teacher and got my share of Christmas ornaments and cookies. What does she teach?
My first thought is a book about her speciality, such as Ken Burns Civil War for a history teacher, or archeology, My second thought is a CD, or set of CD/DVDs from a PBS broadcast. (History channel, Discovery channel, etc. productions), such as "I Claudius". I know I seem to be stuck on history. I suggest that you haunt Amazon for ideas and/or Netflix. They sell DVDs as well as rent them. If she has a charitable organization that's another idea for a trinket. Example: I do dog rescue, and the "Animal Rescue Site" has a whole store of "Purple Paw" things. Mostly cheap, but a token to go with whatever else you give her. You can write to me if you want to run things by me.

My students know that I love to be pampered and we always joke that if I'm not at school it means because I'm sick or I took a day off to go to a spa...so a few of them got me a gift certificate to a day spa/massage place. It was awesome.
