take your hits, divide it by your at bats. a very good hitter in the mlb has a batting average of >.300.
for example, if I get 27 hits in 100 at bats, i have a batting average of .270.

count how many at bats you have and hits and get your average like if you go 2-4 thats .500 add all those numbers and divide it by the number of at bats

hits/ at bats. one hit in three at bats means a BA of .333, etc

divide hits by the times you are at bat. walks do not count. sacrafice does not count agains your at bat totals.
