I was thinking of start a business where people can post there cars homes or even a travel website to make some extra cash any suggestions on how to start these type of businesses?

I started a dot com company in Northern California, and the county required to following:
a fictitious business name, and a certificate from the Board of equalization, so you can pay taxes on your profits.
Purchase a domain name from network solutions.
And here is where I was not prepared -- the costs of promoting this site were very expensive, and to this day I can barely keep it in the black. So please put a lot of thought into your idea before you waste your money -- good luck!

Also read "Blue Ocean Strategy" by Kim, "Lucky or Smart" by Peabody, and "The World is Flat" by Friedman. These books will get you off to a great start. This is Seth Goden's website and it is full of instructions and examples of how to not only build a great site, but also how to get people to find it and become involved with it. Just building a great website without a strategy to promote it is like placing a billboard in your basement. It looks nice, but who knows it's there?
