Depending on whether you want the first king before 1066 or not - the first pre-conquest King of England was Alfred the Great and the post-conquest was William I (the Conqueror). Egbert was actually King of Wessex and briefly King of England but wasn't proclaimed as such.

The first king over all of Great Britain was James I/VI, who was the first to hold both the English and Scottish monarchy. (The two crowns were formally merged in 1707, when Queen Anne was on the throne).

The first true king of England was Alfred the Great in the late 800s, who was the first king to truly hold sway over the whole of the country. He was a grandson of King Egbert, who was King of Wessex but never truly king over all England.

"Britain" is a flexible term. It comprises England Wales and Scotland. Ireland is also part of the British Isles. The first king of all of them was James 1, the son of Mary of Scotland and Lord Darnley. He was the great grandson of Mary, the daughter of Henry VII and sister to Henry VIII who married James IV of Scotland. He succeeded his first cousin twice removed Elizabeth I.
