Have you seen slugs on the Hostas,if you do see them , next time leans over and remove it from the plant, simple, easy, chances are you only have a few slugs and if you can remove them by hand when ever you see one, or look for them and whip them out that way. Snails love and need very damp soil to live in, they also like damp
pine straw, if you pine straw is old, rake it away from the Hostas and either dispose of it or find the snails probably living in it, kill them, spread the straw, let it dry and reuse it. There are other insects that chew leaves too. Good luck, wear gloves and if you gotta kill, do it ala natural.

Try copper barriers. They come on a roll like tape. You can buy it in various widths from 2" to 6". You take a piece of it and form a "wall" around the stem of the plant. Or you can actually wrap the stuff around the stalk it's self. when the offending slug attempts to cross over the barrier, the copper reacts with the slugs chemistry and repels the little suckers. Good luck.

I also have a huge slug problem brought in with some mulch I purchased.
First I went out every evening and salted the little buggers. I then used slugo but that had minimal effects. This year I finally went with Deadline. haven't seen any in two weeks!! It is very effective and highly toxic for the little terrors. Use it once or twice a summer and it should eliminate them alltogether.

Try Dish Soap and water, just spray it on the leaves, it works for roses and vegetables so it will probably work for Hosta's too.

do not apply the ortho directly to the plant! put it in a grass seed spreader and add it else where! it attracts them away from ur plants! and kills them! it works but u might just ahve a big infestation.... just stay on top of it and u will prevail with this product!
