My ex husband wants me to send him a copy of the kids birth certificate and social security cards so he can add them to his food stamp case in Michigan for the summer while they are visiting him. Now I have no problem with this but I have them on a state funded medical progam here in Texas. Can he get in trouble for doing this or can it mess up my stuff here?

Honey, you will be paying back the county he is living in for those food stamps so be careful.

Years ago, I had a client who's children went to stay with their father for the summer. The father signed the kids up to receive food stamps. The County worker called the mother on her job and made inquiries on who the children resided with. social security numbers for the children. How long have they been with the father. how long are they staying, etc.. My client asked if the children were to be added to the father's county case, would she be liable. She was told yes. So before you agree to this, find out if you will have to pay them back.

Good luck.

Contact your case worker and show her the proof she needs that the kids will be with him for the summer. If this messes them up they just won't be able to go. In this worst case you will have to notify the judge. If the judge wants the children to go with their dad then he can pass a ruling that the children will not loose the help they need.
Best of luck to both of you and the children

It'll be fine as long as your case worker knows about the situation.Be sure that he cancels the benfit when they come home.

No one will get in trouble. Just make sure he cancels it when they come back home.
