Same reason wives do things for husbands on Father's Day. Now if you do things often anyway, wives shouldn't complain. There are many husbands who go all out on Valentine's Day and Mother's Day, but then forget their wives the rest of the time. I know of many husbands who don't do much on either day, but yet they also do little things for their wives all year round. That to me is more of a sign that a husband loves his wife versus those that go all out 1 or 2 days out of the year and do nothing for their wives the rest of the time. Same goes for wives with their husbands.

Let's see....for everything we do as mother's and wives as far as that goes. Most of us raise your children and that is not an easy task. Also, if the children are young I doubt they have much money to go buy something for their mother to show their appreciation for the love and care we give them. Why do we have to buy husbands something for father's day???

Because Hallmark and FTD says so. Now go jump off the cliff lemming. If a man takes care of his wife on a daily basis brings her flowers and the occasional surprise jewelery is it not OK to skip the commercialism of Mothers day. I hate all of the Hallmark holidays i.e. mothers day, fathers day, valentines day and for your Midwesterners sweetest day. Do it year long if you need the media and florists to tell you then you are not doing your job in the first place. Put your wife on a pedestal daily and tell her you love her then maybe mothers day wouldn't be such a big deal.

I guess you meant to say "why do SOME wives feel like husbands are supposed to buy them something for Mother's Day?" I never expected my ex to get me something for mother's day as I was not his mother, however he would give my daughter money to get me something when she was younger. Frankly I prefered him NOT to get me gifts because they were appliances (2nd anniversary I got a vacumn cleaner) and to me those just aren't "gifts".

Its not the husbands job to get a wife something for mothers day because she is not his mom.It would be different if the dad wanted to get a gift for her on behalf their baby or something like that but if you have older children,be happy and grateful for the gifts that they make you at school or daycare.

I have never thought that my husband should buy a Mother's day gift for me because I am not his Mother. He gave our children money to buy a gift for me.

The same reason they get them a birthday gift - out of appreciation for being the mother of their child(ren). In my opinion, if the mother and father are together, men should especially do this when their child(ren) is/are too young to give their mother a gift themselves.
