I've always liked this one,

"Faith is not belief without proof, but trust without reservations."

The expression by Elton Trueblood exemplifies ignorance of matters spiritual. Faith is belief without proof... this surmise has been proved beyond doubt. Those who believe in God Almighty and his existence also believe in this surmise. Spirituality is beyond the capture of philosophers. The travelers on the path of spirituality dwell on absolute faith in the existence of God Almighty... a faith that is almost blind.

As we cannot see the smell of a flower but feel its presence... we also cannot see our soul atman but feel its presence in our heart. Absolute faith in God Almighty is that entity that makes a Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ and prophet Mohammed out of a commoner. Without explicit faith in the entity of God almighty... one can never reach the stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and then salvation (moksha). It can never be!

In the domain of God most actions are beyond the purview of the senses and the mind. It is only blind faith in the existence of God Almighty that makes a spiritual seeker reach the last leg of cosmic life... the 8.4 millionth manifestation! To cut across the shackles of the five senses and the mind... we ought to have absolute faith in God... something that cannot be proved yet exists!

In the absence of faith in God almighty... life is like a rudderless boat going round and round in the ocean. Belief in God without proof paves way for understanding the crux of cosmic life. For every human being traveling the spiritual path is total uncharted territory. It is only absolute faith in Almighty God that makes one complete the journey. Yes faith is belief in something never heard from before. Like a child can believe in dragons all he wants but he will never see one. Yet he has faith that the dragon exists. And when news about it spreads he will know it's really there.

Yep. But the very fact that, lets face it, faith is hijacked by neuroticly crazy church followers and majority of the population takes away the transcendant factor...
No "sane" person would want to be ascociated with that word.
Religion spreads a full message tha includes "gods plan", original sin, repentance through JC etc... Its degrading and pathetic.
Faith without reserve should be something totally personal, not discussed, and a person in search of that transcendental feeling would want to hide it to all common beings.
Its between one individual and the "WHOLE".....

That is a good quote and I like it too.

It jives with Hebrews 11:1-3

1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

2For by it the elders obtained a good report.

3Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The acceptance of the word of another, trusting that the one knows what the other is saying and is honest in telling the truth. Faith in God is an assent of the mind and will concerning what God has revealed. "Faith declares what the senses do not perceive, but not the contrary to what they see. It is above them, not contrary to them." (Blaise Pascal)

Faith is a contrived condition in which one claims to belive in something as fact, with no reason to do so, and often lacking the ability to even comprehend that which he claims to blindly believe in.

Faith is sometimes belief without proof, but sometimes it is willing surrender to whatever will be. (You actually cannot tell from what someone says, which variety they have.)

A personal feeling I can't define, but that makes me feel deep inside there is anything else than the things I can see.
