I originally had xp on my laptop but got it upgraded it to vista with a free upgrade disc i got. But the problem is, that I dont like vista and want to return my laptop to xp, but im having trouble returning it to the factory defaults (which I hope will return it to xp). I been pressing Alt+F10 when I boot up like it says to do in the manuel, but nothing happens (apart from a beeping sound). I've looked around on the internet and I read that its happened to other people, and that there's something wrong with the laptop cos the Alt+F10 should work. So if anyone else could please help, and let me know if there are any way to get the Alt+F10 thing to work or tell me if there are any other ways to restore my laptop to its factory defaults. Cheers

try putting in the restore disc and restart your computer, and as its starting up hold down F12, then change it to boot from the disc drive instead of the harddrive

When you buy Acer computers you need to do recovery cd's before you change the operating systems, so you can restore the original factory settings.
Loading windows xp back as your operating system will require you to go the the acer web sit and download all the correct driversfor your model of computer. There is no easy way. Alt+F10 won't restore you computer to XP.

Hi, we have an acer 3692 and 5612.
Did you not burn a recover disc to dvd when you got the machine
If you press alt + F10 does this not reset your machine to the vista upgrade.
Try the acer recovery managment which is part of acer's empowering technology. That is there whether on xp or vista.
Hope you haven't deleted the programme. Its very useful

The latest laptops does not ship restore discs. Rather they include a hidden partition on your hard disk and there are all the recovery files.
I think you have to hit ALT-F10 when you just turn the computer to bring the recovery screen

oh dear, why did you ever up grade to vista... now you have a problem.. if you do not have a xp cd your going to be out of luck,
what I would do is contact Microsoft support website and ask them how you can return your system back to xp, there should be a backup file that will return your system back to xp.
when you was loading Vista onto your computer you should have watched and read all the instructions, on what it was doing, somewhere within the install it would have done a systems restore point, so that you could restore your windows xp, to it's original state,
