Places where alterations occur:

* dams
* water diversions
* bridge abutments
* sewage and industrial outfalls
* culverts
* places where streams are straightened or diked

Solutions: stop making alterations, or construct things so the flows and sediment transport are not altered by structures.

This occurs in many ways, the ones i'm going to list here are the most common:

1) Weathering by chemicals, when CO2, CO and/or C14 gas is released into the air, water that is evaporating acts as a solute for the poisonous gas (not to us). So if there was limestone in a river this could be easily dissolved.

2) Deposition. This is when water carries over sediments to other sides or changes their position by depositing them in other places, most times at the end of rivers, so if you have ever seen the mississippi delta, that's an effect of that.

As the name infers, alterations occur when the path or direction of the water changes due to man-made or natural phenomenon. Nature requires no solutions as water will flow or alter its path accordingly to the terrain. Alterations due to man-made causes can be corrected by looking at the way in which the natural environment responds to diversions in the direction of flow dynamics.
