I have no problem writing the problem part... or the solution part... well i guess i could use some input on the solution part, but the main part i need help with is the visualization part... "What would life look like with stricter gun control?" ... "What will life look like in the future if we continue to have relaxed gun control laws?"

any ideas on how to incorperate that into my speech
thanks

as for all of u talking about more guns making it safer... let me leave u with this...

A leading Virginia gun rights group said that if one of the victims were carrying a concealed weapon, this massacre might have been averted. What's wrong with that argument? (Katie Couric)

It’s natural to ask “what if” and think that maybe some Gary Cooper/John Wayne hero might have been able to react quickly enough to limit the amount of death and injury after the shooter burst into the classrooms and started firing numerous rounds from a high-capacity clip in just seconds. As a former mayor, however, I know that being able to react quickly and effectively without becoming one of the first targets of the shooter is difficult even for trained police officers. Studies show that adding more guns to a home, a community, state, or country leads to more deaths and violence, not less. (Paul Helmke president of brady campaign)

look at places like england who have stricter laws... exactly.

Concerning your stats about how many people were killed. The person holding the guns was the killer, not the gun itself as your sentence would insinuate. Also, relating to those numbers, did you know that 12,800 people in the US that same year were killed in accidents caused by drunk drivers?
So those numbers are pretty close to each other.
Lets take a look at the laws concerning drunk driving.
1. It is illegal in all 50 states.
2. The BAC to be considered drunk is the same in every state, .08% or about equal to 3-4 beers for most people.
3. You have to be at least 21 to even purchase alcoholic beverages.'
4. Bartenders have the right to cut you off at any time if they feel you are too drunk.
OK, thats a few. Do these laws work? Apparently not. Should we totally ban alcohol? Well we did for awhile. and for different reasons but it didn't work, people just found other ways to get it.
My point is, you can create as many laws as you want but unless people obey those laws they are useless.
By the way, I would think if you can so easily see the problem as well as the solutions, the effects would be just as clear.

If availability is the problem, why weren't things worse prior to 1968? Back then you could buy guns by mail - no age check, no background check, no criminal history check. Guns were even advertised in comic books. Many high school students regularly carried rifles to school for marksmanship courses. If availability is the problem, why weren't there more violent crimes back then? Why are you blaming *lower* availability for an increased crime rate?

Does having a firearm present make the crime worse? Ask criminologists:

"It is the contention of this observer that few homicides due to shooting could be avoided merely if a firearm were not immediately present, and that the offender would select some other weapon to achieve the same destructive goal." - Marvin E. Wolfgang, Patterns in Criminal Homicide, (University of Pennsylvania Press, 1958) p. 82 (gun control supporter)

"It is commonly hypothesized that much criminal violence, especially homicide, occurs simply because the means of lethal violence (firearms) are readily at hand, and thus that much homicide would not occur were firearms generally less available. There is no persuasive evidence that supports this view." - James Wright and Peter Rossi, Armed and Considered Dangerous, (Aldine de Gruyter, NY, 1986) (one gun control supporter, DOJ funded study)

are you for it or not?
I hate people with guns, if someone broke into a house and the house had a gun, they could steal it and use it, where else do you think where crimals get guns from?

anyways (I'm making this up)

can you imagine what life will be like with stricter gun control? well first, you will be able to see it because you will be alive. the police job will be easier, there will be less school shooting. Imagine a life where your kids can go to school worrying about grades rather than their life, imagine a life where you can walk download a street without being shot (doesn't mean you won't get cut with a knife:),
now
imagine a life where there is little to no gun control. you walk down once, your dead. you send your kids to school, ....the last time......you walk home......and never reach home.
This my friends is what will happen....
don't listen to the bs about "freedom" or bill of rights number 1?2?3?
what happened about the consitution and the bill of rights that say we get to have a safe life?

I know it sucks but hey....
I made it up when I was typing :)
by the way, start with that to incorperate it, make it clear what the differences are in the beginning.
good luck

Look at how well gun control is working right now.

New York City has some of the strictest gun control laws in the country and it also has one of the highest rates of gun violence in the country. On the other hand, Kennesaw, Georgia, has a law on the books that requires every head of household who legally can to own a firearm for self protection, it has seen a dramatic drop in violent crime since that law was passed.

All gun control laws do is keep guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens. Those who break the law could not care less whether they can legally possess a firearm, so they pay no attention to the law. Keeping firearms out of the hands of private law abiding citizens and putting them in the hands of criminals (which is was gun control laws do) makes any place that has such laws in place a much more dangerous place to live and work.

You ask what the world would look like with stricter gun controls laws? It would be a much more dangerous place. Violent crime would go up, gun related crime would go up, and the world would become a much less safe place for law abiding citizens since they would lace the ability to defend themselves. Just look at those countries where guns have been banned. Violent crime is up and the population is less safe.

If you look at the recent here in Virginia at Virginia Tech, while you have heard that tougher gun controls laws would have prevented the tragedy, nothing could be further from the truth. Virginia Tech has a policy the prevents any student or faculty or staff member from carrying a firearm on campus, even those people who have been vetted and approved by the state to carry a concealed weapon. The rules in place at Virginia Tech were supposed to keep a firearm out of the hands of every student on campus. As we can see, the restrictive gun control policy only kept handguns out of the hands of the students and faculty who needed the ability to defend themselves. How much different would that day have turned out if just one person had had the ability to return fire and stop the killing before it reaced 32.

Restrictive gun control laws did not stop Colin Fergusson on the New York subway. Restrictive gun control laws did not stop George Hennard at the Luby's Restaurant in Killeen, Texas. Restrived gun control laws did not stop Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. Restrictive gun control laws will not stop the next mass murderer who uses a firearm either.

If you're not afraid of the truth about gun control, then take an honest look at the facts. Gun control laws do not work, and never have worked, to prevent violent crime.

-----

As an added thought.

Answer me this. If restrictive gun control laws work, then why does New York city have such a high crime rate? If restrictive gun laws work, then how was Cho Sung Hui able to be in possession of a hand gun on the campus of Virginia Tech. If restrictive gun laws work then why has the violent crime rate in Australia skyrocketed since they banned guns (http://www.newsmax.com/articles/?a=2000/6/26/12629).

You can look at the truth or you can look at the hype. The bottom line is that guns save lives.

"What would life look like with stricter gun control?"

Answer: Virginia Tech.

If you look at all the "gun-free" zones, such as Virginia Tech, you will notice that someone who doesn't care about bans or laws feels safer going ballistic in these type of zones because nobody else is carrying a gun.

It's easy to visualize what life would like with stricter gun control - see what life is life in England, Germany, Japan, Canada: Less crime, fewer people locked away in jails, fewer people accidently killed by guns in their homes, fewer suicides (especially guys), fewer drive-bys, fewer homicides, safer streets.

Look up the statistics on any of those countries and compare them to the US.

What would life look with relaxed gun control? Compare Virginia to Connecticut in terms of violent crime, gun crime, etc.
