I'm asking because my mom read my question on how to be discovered, and we're going to the audition for The Color Purple, Dreamgirls on Broadway, and Peter Pan (which is really stupid, but I'm doing it anyway). Thanks for everyone's support!!!!!

california is very fun if you go with an attitude that you are doing this for experience, and for the love of trying out, and a story to tell your friends, and whatever happens, happens.

You should mix going to professional tryouts with making yourself better on your own. Every audition is a lesson; a learning experience of how to behave in front of the auditioners, a chance to perform (albeit only for a few moments), a lesson in what to wear and how to handle the emotions of the waiting, and so on. You build on that with getting good voice and acting lessons, trying out for stuff at a local level and don't get disappointed if nothing happens right away.

If you and your mom are SUPER serious you should be sending a picture and resume to children's agencies in LA or NY, but I think for now you should go to have a great time, and if you are going to LA for these auditions then plan on visiting disneyland and universal studios and seeing the stars on hollywood blvd.

if the question is "once I get discovered will I enjoy living in california?" the answer is different. Probably not; acting is a very hard life and the kids who come out here with their parents to try it are dead serious and very, very competitive. Most kids have to be home-schooled or have tutoring so they miss out on the social network of school and it can be very isolating. LA is a big, mean, impersonal place and a lot of people are nice to your face but don't really mean it. there is a lot of traffic, a lot of waiting in traffic to get to auditions, a lot of waiting in lobbies at auditions, a lot of rejection. even the people who do get "noticed" get rejected more often then you get the part. It's just the way it works.

I am not telling you not to pursue your dreams because I think it's wonderful to have a life in the arts and it sounds so fun that your mom is willing to back you up and get you out there. You are already way ahead of the kids who have dreams but have parents who won't take a chance and drive them into the city for an audition. It's just that if you ARE good and you do start getting calls and callbacks and that kind of thing you should know what you are getting into in the years to come. Remember Dan Radcliffe's parents (the actor who plays Harry Potter) are actors and casting directors, and they didn't want him to try out, because they didn't want him to have to have that kind of life. Ultimately they got the call that he was offered the part and left the decision to take it up to him, after having a very serious talk about how it was going to change his life.

I visited southern Cali once about 15 years ago, and had the time of my life. I'm curious about something, though. If you're going to audition for shows on Broadway, why are you asking about California? Broadway is in New York, 3,000 east of California, on the opposite coast.

It can be, depends on where you go.

Most of LA sucks these day, but north and south is better.

Malibu and Orange County areas are somewhat nice as is Santa Clarita.
