I wouldn't say immigrants, but I think that illegal immigrants play a large part. Almost half of the people in prison are illegal immigrants, not to mention that hospitals are liable to treat illegal immigrants, but these people do not pay taxes like everyone else. This consequently leads to higher health insurance. In fact, us tax payers end up paying for them. It costs thousands to keep only one inmate in jail. Also, the majority of the money they do make gets mailed back to their families in their home countries. The American economy doesn't even get to see it.

My parents are immigrants, and they are proud to have become Americans and they are appreciative of the fact that they have been able to live the American dream. It's too bad that many "illegal" immigrants do not respect our laws, and only come here to abuse the system.

I believe that ILLEGAL immigrants the cause of higher taxes, this is because they are not paying taxes yet they are using resources (food, gas, etc.). Technically everyone except for the native Americans are immigrants. The fact that we have immigrants has nothing to do with the higher crime rates. People who have messed up ideas are regular people, who just had issues as a child or growing up that led them to begin crime. If you're thinking about the VT incident, the guy was foreign but one man doesn't represent thousands of people and like I said, almost everyone is this country is an immigrant.

Politicians are the cause of higher taxes. The US Congress enacts tax bills. We have high crime rates in the US, caused by citizens, legal immigrants and illegal immigrants.
