Yes, the USSR kept us in our place. That's why we stocked up on nuclear weapons all throughout the Cold War while trying to stop the spread of Communism in other countries. Yes, we didn't push anyone around back then.

No. for the most part, the rest of the worlds politics, just don't work. neutrality, doesn't work either, thus world wars 1 and, 2. most of the time, sitting on the fence just makes the next war(unavoidable), that much longer and, more costly in human life. anyone who thinks the next war is not necessary, is either having a pleasant dream or, smoking something, very potent.
