The thing to keep in mind is that when it comes to genetics- it only matters in terms of if you have twinning occurring on YOUR mothers side of the family- as the twinning gene is only passed down on the maternal side through females. The husbands/fiance's family has nothing to do with causing your eggs to drop. (Genetic twinning, which is fraternal is a result of a gene thats passed down through females to females which causes double ovulation) So unfortunately, your fiance's family has nothing to do with your chances of twinning in terms of genetics.
Aside from taking fertility drugs- it really is the luck of the draw. There are theories that taking folic acid may help, as well as eating pineapple and yams in immensely huge proportions (think everyday).
Parity- which is the number of children you already have also help increase your odds of fraternals. The thought behind this is that the longer you are pregnant (the more children you have so far) thats less ovulation that has been occurring. So in theory, you are more fertile and dropping more then one mature egg.
Also age has a factor to help as well- since the older you are, the more mature eggs are dropping from your ovaries.
There is nothing you can to increase the chances of identical (monozygotic) twinning. This happens when ONE egg splits, rather then two eggs dropping. No one knows what causes the egg to split
My earliest indications was severe morning sickness. I began throwing up before my period was even due. I started getting a 'pooch' much sooner then before, at around 10 weeks, and feeling flutters much sooner (around 13 weeks)
An ultrasound at 7 weeks revealed my twins. There was no history of twinning. We later learned that my twins are identical (No environmental, or genetic indicators could have predicted or caused)
Good luck

It has absolutely NOTHING to do with his family...twins come from the woman either releasing more than one egg or the one egg dividing to make identical twins. Twins have nothing to do with sperm. The females in HIS family may be slightly more prone to having multiples, but sorry not you unless it runs in your family.

Tell your doctor it runs in the family and that you would like an ultrasound. They usually will do this for you, atleast in canada. Other than that , I`m no help. I just know that suspected multiples are reason enough for doctors to suggest ultrasound

twins would have to run in YOUR family, so unless you have a family history if twins or mulitples, your most likely not having them
