LawnBoy Silver Series Model 10202 wont start.?

Question

I have a 1994 Lawnboy Silver Series Model 10202. It sat under my deck for about 3 years not being used. I am now trying to get it running again but it will not start. I have replaced the spark plug, air filter, and oil. I also cleaned out the carb bowl and float. I can get it to start if I squirt some gas into the spark plug hole or into the air filter hole. It will run that way for about 5 seconds then will die and not start again. At one point I tried spraying fuel into the air filter hole and starting it. Then before it would die I would squirt another squirt of gas into the air filter hole. It would stay running that way. I would really like to not have to take it into the shop. Does this mower have a fuel filter or fuel shutoff valve? Also I was reading on the internet and read that if you let the float ring all the way down a float needle will fall out. I did let the float ring all the way down but did not see anything fall out.

Also if I start it by spraying gas into the carb, pushing the primmer will do nothing. In other words it does not keep it running.

The carb and probably the gas tank need to come off and be cleaned. I would bet that you got some water in the gas tank. Take the carb apart and soak it in a good parts cleaner, blow it out with compressed air and install a rebuild kit. Make sure that there is no rust or crud in the tank also.

You need to have the carb cleaned. cleaning the float bowl is only part of the job.
