I have an 86 Camaro that I swapped out the stock 305 with a 350 rebuilt with a choppy idleing camshaft. But everything else on the car is stock, the tranny is stock as well. I set the idel on the carburetor around 1,000 rpm it is an edelbrock 1406 model 600cfm.
When I put the car in drive and go especially from a complete stop it doesnt die but it keeps bogging out and it doesn't shift properly when it should. i.e.: I have to let off the gas so it can shift.
Any suggestions?

the carburetor is brand new and I've changed nothing on it, I haven't messed with the air/fuel either, only thing I touched was the idler screws.

Just a long shot but what transmission do you have? If it is the 700r4 try adjusting the tv or throttle valve cable this determines when the line pressure in the trans builds up . If not adjusted correctly it will cause late or early shifting depending on throttle position . Just push the button on the end of the cable hooked to the carb and it should release tension on cable then . Push the gas pedal to the floor and release the button on the cable as it adjust you may hear a ratchetting or clicking sound after you have adjusted the cable take it for a spin and see how it drives hope this helps .

With your stock torque converter the engine is not coming into its power range until you reach 20 mph or so. Go with a 2500 stall converter, it will make a huge difference. One more thing, an engine must be built from the ground up for a specific purpose. The cam must match the intake, converter, compression ratio, carb., and exhaust. An engine works as a system. You cant have a high RPM cam in an engine designed to run at a lower speed.

Pedro's right with his answers,but also was the carb detuned with jets and metering rods for the 305?My 305 would never run right with that carb leaned as much as I could get it.When I put a 350 in my truck,I set the carb back up the way it was jetted when I bought it,and never had a problem.

You may have the vacuum lines to the distributor vacuum advance hooked up to the wrong ports on the carburator.

Check the timing with a timing gun. It may be advancing way to early.

ADDED: Just for fun, pinch off the vacuum line and try driving it again around the block.

timing might need advanced a little, check it out or you have a vaccum leak on the intake manifold or one of the vaccum lines.

may be vaccume leak or bad accelator pump in carb...u may have too much cam and need more rear gear...323 or 355 to 1...
