Humans have hysterical reactions to unfamiliar things. They have altered and exaggerated memory. They stubbornly hold to and reinforce beliefs even in the face of solid proof against them. They hallucinate, have delusions, confuse dream memories with real memories. They have neuroses, psychoses, and not the least of these: they lie a lot. Those are some of the things people do. Over 900 people knowingly committed suicide at the order of one insane cult leader in Jonestown. That's not the only tragic example of believing too easily in something. Lethal gullibility. That's what it was. Belief in ghosts seems harmless, but you never know what nonsense you will believe in next unless you have your rational, critical facilities working all the time.
Now considering all of that, why would anyone conclude that it's harder *not* to believe in ghosts? Hey how about this theory?...Ghosts don't exist. Never did. Never will. Nowadays true believers consider that kind of thinking to be oppressive, narrowminded , and stupid. But, unfortunately for them, it is also right.
And when they click the thumbs-down icon below this post, it will be because they don't want to know the truth when it's so much more fun to get all breathless and giddy over things that don't exist.

I never did, until about 6 years ago. I was walking in the woods along an old trail and saw a man riding a horse coming towards me on the trail. He was in old (1800's?) clothes, and neither he, nor the horse made a sound. When he got within about 40-50yds from me, he just vanished. Scared the living crap out of me!! I later found out that the trail had been a major trail back in the 1800's, and that many others had also seen him over the years. If that wasn't a ghost, I don't know what else it could have been. I had no knowledge of the history of the trail, didn't drink, and wasn't on any drugs. That's the only first-hand experience of actually seeing a spirit I've ever had.
My sister swears that a kitchen baking center (cabinet c.1934) that belonged to our grandmother is haunted. My grandmother received it as a wedding gift from her parents in 1934. She never allowed anything on it because she didn't want it to get scratched up. After she passed, my sister got it. She said that any time she placed anything on the cabinet, it would always get thrown onto the floor. She said that once, she placed a flashlight onto the top (which is surrounded by a border about 1 1/2" high) and left the room. Hearing a thud, she went back into the kitchen and the flashlight was laying in the middle of the floor. I have owned it since then, and have never had any of the things she said happen. It currently is decorated with several old kitchen items and never has anything fallen off. (I did speak out loud that if anything started falling off, I'd chop it up for stovewood. So maybe my grandma thought I was serious)
My other sister lived in a small house that she was convinced was haunted. She never saw a spirit, but her tv would go on & off by itself, and lights would suddenly turn on or off. I witnessed these myself several times. Once, she was in her room and the light suddenly turned on. She hollered "Turn that back off!!" and it did. She also had the bathroom door closed in her face hard enough to bust her nose. That was the breaking point & she moved out.

I used to not believe in ghosts..until about 3 months ago.
I was in my dorm late at night just brushing my teeth before I went to bed, i put my head down for a second to spit, and when I looked up, I saw the shadowy figure of a man about 6'7", his whole body was dark except for his red glowing eyes.
as soon as I saw him, I screamed like a little girl, then tried running for the door, but i slipped on the wet floor and hit my head, and passed out.
I woke up the next morning and thought maybe I was dreaming last night. I thought everything was normal, until my roommate asked me why I had the numbers 666 shaved into the back of my head...
I do believe that I had an encounter with Lucifer that night.

Yes, I do believe in ghosts, spirits and the paranormal. I have seen and heard to much with my own eyes and ears. Those who are saying that there is no proof is pretty close-minded. I guess for some it is easier to stick their head in the sand than to actually find out the truth or are afraid of what to many of us do know to be the truth.
I have had so many encounters that it is hard to pick one. I have always lived in a haunted house and I now live in one with my family. At first I was afraid of what was here. I no longer am as I will not give them the honor of that fear as it seems to make them stronger. I have seen demons and that is the worst by far. I don't know which would be worse to be afraid of The Free Masons or a ghost. I know a mason goes up to 33 levels and each level you go up the more secretive they become. I know a Mason who is at level 31 and he has been doing demonology for over 30 years and will not teach anyone how to get rid of a demon. So when come across one or more, I just give out his E-Mail. I also belong to a very good Paranormal Group and I am not one to belong to something I don't accept that I haven't seen or heard or studied by me to be real or not.
So, again my answer is YES to your question. Thanks for asking.

I used to be more of a skeptic, until one morning I woke up earlier than usual, thinking it was 7am. I looked around, wondering WHY I was awake, only to notice it was actually 5am in the morning. After a while, I noticed my bedroom was strangely cold and got up (without turning the lights on) to check on the heater, which I had turned on the night before going to sleep. It was oddly switched off, so I turned it back on and hopped back into bed. After a few minutes, I couldn't get to sleep because I felt like someone was in my bedroom. Assuming it was either one of my parents, I sat up in bed only to see a dark figure standing over the heater. The bottom half of its body didn't seem to exist - and immediately after noticing this, I panicked. I tried to force myself back to sleep, but was so scared I couldn't. Eventually, I convinced myself it was some sort of 'light trick' and got out from under the bed sheets to switch on my lamp. When I did, the figure was not there. I felt like an idiot, you know, foolish and all - so I turned the light out. Just then, I saw it come back - watch me for a couple of seconds and then disappear. Since then, I haven't been afraid of them and I do believe it them - but I don't think I want to experience that sort of thing again. I almost had a heartattack!
Then again, to really believe in a ghost, you need to experience something unexplainable to yourself. And even then, the only one who will really believe you - is yourself.

Tough question!
I do believe there is something there that we don't fully understand at the moment. The clear majority of events can be explained but it's the small percentage that seem to defy all explanation that really impresses! Gradually the subject of ghosts is gathering more and more serious scientific scrutiny ... I hope this continues to build so that we become closer to the answer.
Weird experiences? Yes ... that's what led me to start on my own journey in investigating the subject!

I cant say I don't, because then I'd be flat out lying. I believe that my desire to witness such an event has altered my complete outlook on the subject. Then again when I question something that I can't explain it is usually backed up with more doubt than acceptance. I have seen things that I can't deny.

Oh yes, I believe in Ghosts and flying sausers!(I never call them UFO's) After my sister died,I settled down for the night to go to sleep.(I wasn't asleep when this happened) From my room, you could see through the livingroom and into the family room. When I turned in my bed to get confortable,I happened to look through those two rooms ,and in the living room was a shaddowy, clowdy, smokey form of a woman floating across the room off the ground! You could tell it was a woman. You could also see right through it ,and the thing that really stood out was that the figure had no feet! It floated right through the front window, and dissapeared! That scared me so much, I just closed my eyes tightly, and prayed.I was to scared to go and get my Mom, or another sister. The next day, I told them about what I had Seen.About how the shaddowy form floated right through the window and dissappeared. We, my Mom and sister Patty, and myself, went over to the window to look out,and when we pulled the drapes back to look out, there on the floor right next to the baseboard was the necklace my Mom had given to my sister that had died.My sister, had never been in this house before. Mom had just moved in, and Donna was living in Denver,Colorado at the time of her death. We all got a very strange feeling upon seeing the necklace. That wasn't the first or last time we had seen our sisters ghost. Numerous times our other sisters and brothers have seen her.I think the last time she was seen was by our Dad, who of course never believed we where seeing her. After Dad's sighting ,which is a whole other story in it'self,Our dad would turn pale white when asked about it. He finally said,"You know Mommie,(that's what dad called mom around us)I think you where right about Donna."And that's all that was said . I could tell you some other stories that would raise the hair on the back of your neck,Real stories, not made up things.Stuff that is true. But I wont. For the moment.Bye

Yeah, I met two once. They were pretty friendly.
I haven't really met many more ghosts, but I know lots about them and I have met lots of other entities that aren't dead. There are lots of kinds of ghosts, it is a really broad, generic terms (so I don't like to use it much, but everyone understands it).
Weird experiences? I once saw my shoe drag itself across the floor. I was followed by demons for two years once (they wanted to kill me). I speak to entities. And then there was the time that something that looked like a stunted chicken entered my house to ask for directions. Oh, and there is a cat wandering my house right now that nobody else is noticing, but it is there for a good reason so I ignore it.l
