Never in a million years. Period.

When I moved from an urban atmosphere to a suburban school, I was stereotyped in good ways and bad ways. For instance, I was in the honors program at my previous school, but for some reason I wasn't placed in the honors program at the new school. I can only speculate why.

The basketball and football coaches automatically assumed I was an exceptional athlete and insisted I try out for their teams. Although I was pretty good, I had NO interest in sports and the coaches soon realized my lack of drive and participation. They put me in an uncomfortable situation and frustrated themselves all because they immediately concluded that a black kid from the city MUST be into sports.

Long story short, positive stereotypes may get you some positive attention but at the end of the day it's not based on truth but assumptions which usually makes a disappointing and embarrassing situation.

I can't imagine how! I am currently stereotyped as an old woman who should be sitting in my rocking chair knitting and watching TV. I hate it. It is almost like I have lost any intelligence that I had in the past, and I can't possibly keep up with the times. Besides I have neither a TV or a rocking chair and I have never learned to knit!! Stereotyping is a very harmful thing to do to a person.

Not at all. Even the "positive" stereotypes have negative affects. Regardless of the stereotype, racism is being perpetuated. And racism is never a good thing.

"Sure. Here's an example: Everything Cindy K says has been stereotyped as being racist, bigoted, ignorant, ugly and pathetic, and it's true! Everything she writes IS all of those things! See? Stereotyping works!"
----False logic, my friend. What Cindy K says is not stereotyped as being racist. What she says IS, in fact, racist.

Stereotypes are there because there is some truth to them, but it's iffy enough I wouldn't bet on it anymore than I would the toss of a coin.

the horrible way it makes ppl feel may bring them closer together as a race (but they will become closer as a race simply to combat the major race)

stereotyping is a handicap. if you stereotype me you are going to expect one thing, then reality is going to b*tch slap you
