That depends alot on how easily you make friends and what area you will be living in. It is not easy, and can be very dangerous. I would suggest you plan on having at least a roommate live with you for safety reason.

If you mean "on your own" as in your parents not paying for your expenses? Then your answer would be: next to impossible.

There are some factors you need to consider. Are you going to be on full scholarship? If so, then you might be able to cut it. Your problems are different than students who are from the USA. They can get loans and grants to cover much of the cost of living and school. An international student can't do that, all you can get are scholarships. The cost of living is high in the USA, and part time jobs don't cover the costs you will have. Maybe if you went part time to school and had a full time job. However I don't think you can get a student visa on that basis, on top of that it takes forever to get through school that way.
