You are out of luck.

Here's what most people never quite seem to understand. You OWN the handset. You LEASE (through a contractual service agreement) the service. The cell phone carrier provides you a signal whether or not you have access to the service.

Most carriers offer insurance, which will replace damaged phones provided you pay the deductible of $50.00 or more. If you have no insurance, you can check to see if you are eligible for a handset rebate--usually $75 to $150 off a new phone. These are only available AFTER your old phone is at least a year old.

Failing that, you simply have to buy a new phone, or find an unlocked used one...

The carrier will continue to bill you even if you damage your phone. That's not their fault- and nothing to do with their contract with you.

How old is the phone? Here are your options.
1. Tell them your phone is runited and see if the warranty will cover it (very unlikely)

2. Buy a new phone (expensive)

3. Buy a second hand phone and have your cellphone company tranfer service to it (Usually a transfer fee but cheaper)

4. Cancel your account (usually pay a heafty termination fee)

5. Pay out the rest of the contract and deal without a phone, or sign up for a few service.

6. Move out of the service area. The cell phone company may forgive the termination if you move to an area where they do not offer coverage.

Just because you ruined your phone, doesn't mean it gets you out of the contract. You still have to fulfill your obligations of said contract.

It depends on what service provider you have and whether or not you have insurance on the phone. The insurance itself also varies on what it will and will not cover. Your best bet would be to contact your service provider, see if the phone is insured, and ask about the coverage details if it is. If not, you'll probably have to buy a whole new phone. I hope that's not the case! Just how did the phone get into the washing machine, anyway? Hm...

I've lost my phone like 4 times and my husband ran his through the washing machine as well. If you don't have insurance on your phone, then most likely you're going to have to pay for a new one. Even if you don't get a new phone, then you're still going to have to pay your monthly service charge. Call your phone company to find out.
